Reservation
My understanding of the term “Reservation” is to provide security in terms of occupying a position. In India, reservation was first imposed for few years for some backward castes and schedule tribes to give them opportunity to represent equally in each field. But this was extented to schedule castes. Initially it was imposed for first few years after independence, but it has never been taken back. The sole reason for this is , vote bank.
Reservation is given on the basis of religion, caste , state of domicile and other crieteria and now one more crieteria (i.e. Gender). The fundamental behind reservation is to provide equal chances to somebody who is poor, not have enough resources to get basic requirement to live, to represent their community in public etc. But now reservation’s definition has been changed and it is being used to get votes from people.
Yesterday on 8th Mar,10 women reservation bill did not get pass, but i hope i will get passed soon. This bill should have limit till selection of members of parliament. What is the point to reserve seats in schools, colleges, jobs etc.
Similarly, for backward castes it is being a long time that they are getting benefits of reservation, but now after 3 generations this idea needs to get renewd. Everybody should prove his/her competency to get the required position.
In my opinion, a new reservation bill should be placed in parliament which includes crieterias such as : poverty, physical handicappedness and other reasons (for armymen’s family and similar categories) etc.
Caste, gender and religion should not be crieteria to provide reservation.
Kudos !!!
